WELCOME to STOPTHEQUARRYSAVETHEFARM.COM website. This website is intended to provide East Penn Valley residents with information about the proposed Lehigh Cement Quarry, located at Kempsville and Eagle Road in Richmond Township. The proposed site is approximately one mile west of Kutztown and 3/4 of a mile north of Route 222.
About us: We are a group of private citizens living in Maxatawny and Richmond Townships who are concerned about the negative environmental impact this proposed quarry will have on the East Penn Valley.
Our Mission: We are dedicated to defeat Lehigh Cement’s request to the Richmond Township Zoning Board to grant them a special exception and variances, which are needed to allow them to operate a limestone quarry in a rural / agriculture zoned district. In doing so, we will Preserve 253 acres of some of the best farmland in Berks County - Preserve – a major water shed in the East Penn Valley - Preserve the clean air we all breath – Preserve the rural quality of life we all enjoy and prevent our local roads and Route 222 from additional heavy truck traffic.
